In addition to our private work the Community Schools have developed long and close working partnerships with local schools. For over 5 years we have provided a much needed short term boost to students who for whatever reason find themselves needing help beyond that easily delivered in their regular school classes.
Our partnership with King Edward VI School in Bury St Edmunds began when 10 selected students were supported in our after-school sessions to make progress with their maths and English. Our association has grown over the years and this Summer of 2020 we provided 25 of their selected year 10 students with a week of Summer School support to help bridge the gap created by Covid-19 lockdown. Our work was greatly appreciated by parents who said:-
“Just wanted to thank you for having L. on this session he really enjoyed it, made him have a lot more confidence in himself . So I wanted to let you know that we really appreciate you letting him do the session, thank you again.”
“Many thanks to Sue for the work she put in last week with A. As you can imagine , it wasn’t something he wanted to do , but I believe he has benefitted from doing it.”
“As always learning is easier in small groups like this. I’ll get him to complete the survey .. And could you please pass on my thanks to Sue for her lessons. Kind regards”
Community Schools also work successfully with Northgate High School Ipswich , Claydon High School , Stowmarket High School and Thetford Academy to tutor their selected students in our after-school sessions and to help their students regain the confidence and progress in maths, English and the Sciences.
We run Easter Grade Booster courses for Stowmarket High School focussing on improving exam technique.
At Thetford Academy Community Schools has experience of using its skills to provide intervention support for examination candidate students in their own school environment during the school day.
